Sustainability is at the heart of how we operate. Here are some of the steps we take to minimise our environmental impact and support our local ecosystem:
- Renewable energy: Our manor house (800 sqm) and barn are fully heated by a biomass system, providing both heating and hot water.
- Recycling & waste reduction: We recycle extensively and educate our holiday let guests to do the same, providing recycling bins that we manage and empty for them. We actively reduce single-use plastics at our events. Our venue is fully equipped with glasses, crockery, and cutlery – all durable and washable. When single-use materials are required, we use only recyclable and recycled paper items or sustainable alternatives such as bamboo.
- Land regeneration: We manage a regeneration project with heritage pigs grazing on herbal leys and woodland, supporting soil health and biodiversity.
- Conservation partnerships: We work closely with the Waveney & Suffolk Wildlife Trust on a major peatland conservation project.
- Biodiversity in our gardens: Our gardens feature over 8,500 species of plants, creating a haven for insects, birds, and wildlife.
- Local sourcing: We use local produce and suppliers wherever possible. For events, we often serve our own free-range pork and ask guests to use biodegradable confetti.
- Eco-friendly accommodation: Our off-grid glamping tents feature compost toilets and solar-powered showers. They are not permanent structures, allowing them to be relocated or rebuilt without harming the surrounding environment. All furniture within the tents was built by us using wood from trees naturally fallen on the property after storms.
- Energy efficiency: All lighting in our Venue and Holiday Let uses energy-saving bulbs.
- Sustainable practices: We use eco-friendly cleaning products across all of our facilities to further reduce environmental impact.
We are proud to be a local venue with strong ties to our environment and community, and we are always looking for ways to improve further.
